Willofen

This city is strategically positioned on the edge of the swamp, allowing it to reap the benefits of the wetland without succumbing to its drawbacks. The land as far as the eye can see is utilized for agriculture, with fields growing wheat farther from the swamp and rice closer to its marshy shores. In the center of these productive fields stands a relatively small city, encircled by tall walls on all sides except the swamp, which is impassable on foot.

Within the city, a prominent wooden watchtower looms in the center, serving the purposes of both local authorities and mages for various mysterious reasons. Many consider those structures to be the aftermath of the recent conflict with Morozian cities. The city boasts a main square surrounded by buildings, and scattered throughout its layout are a couple of temples, with the largest one dedicated to Aqui. While many buildings within the city limits are constructed from solid stone with black-tiled roofs, homes outside the city proper are raised on wooden pilings, haphazardly interspersed throughout the swamp. These wooden structures, often topped with straw roofs, are connected by floating walkways.

The majority of the city’s inhabitants are farmers, with only a few achieving any semblance of prosperity. Despite being a thoroughfare for merchants traveling between Astoria and Morozia, Willofen appears unaffected by this trade in terms of its overall prosperity. Many buildings in the city appear neglected, and its temples are somewhat rundown, mirroring the local inhabitants’ approach to maintenance. Scattered in proximity to the city walls are numerous rotting wrecks, and much of the farming equipment in the fields has succumbed to rust, left abandoned and unused.
