Ostrov

Perched on the edge of the Votny Forest and rising above the treeline, stands one of Misteria’s tallest castles. Constructed from coal-black rocks mined near the city, this towering fortress looms over the surrounding landscape, its dark silhouette contrasting with the snow-covered rooftops below. The central tower, flanked by numerous smaller ones, commands an expansive view of the area, while formidable walls shroud the castle’s secrets.

Buildings in the vicinity of the castle maintain a respectful distance from its walls, further emphasizing the isolation of this imposing structure from the city. The town itself stretches extensively around the castle, with a main road leading from the fortress to the central square. Twice a year and only then, on the equinoxes, the rulers leave the castle for celebrations in a great procession. For most, this is the only opportunity to catch a glimpse of them, yet even then, their faces remain hidden behind masks. Rumors suggest a dark and powerful curse has befallen the Ostrov royals, disfiguring them.

To the east of the city, expansive; yet mostly frutless, fields stretch endlessly, dedicated to the cultivation of food that sustains a significant portion of the city’s population. Settlements south of the Morovy Forest lack access to any farmland, making them heavily reliant on food imports from the north, something Ostrov merchants heavily capitalise on.

The Obrova River, flowing westward from the city, serves as a vital transportation route for goods destined for the capital, Vostok, and onward to Viatroviec, with the ultimate goal of shipping them to Burgos and Worgos. North of the city, where the landscape is characterized by rolling hills and grassy expanses, Skiewol horses roam in the wild. Many are captured and tamed for agricultural purposes, valued for their superior strength and durability, especially in Morozia’s challenging climate.
