The Sea of Fog
This enigmatic expanse defies conventional seas, as instead of water, it is filled with a dense Mist that significantly limits visibility. The Sea of Fog is a complicated place filled with ruins and numerous creatures seen only here. As magical mist is harmless in small amounts, creatures who live permanently in it experience changes to their appearance. Their skin becomes hard and coarse and later almost crystalised. Eyes become opaised and limbs stiffen. Those changes are not rapid but remain permanent with no known ways to reverse them.
As many creatures “swim in the sea of fog, consequently, the lower part of the sea is inhabited by land creatures as well as mistborn animals. The Sea of Fog is home to mistcatchers, gliders, festuses, swooping squeals, and fish-like creatures such as fogbass and misty salmon. The flakebloom and mistshrooms that flourish in the floor level are highly sought-after commodities of this region.
On the ground level, many unexplored ruins from ancient civilizations can be found, with the largest standing adjacent to the Black Lake. The area of the sea, south from the aqueduct remains mostly uncharted, with daring sailors embarking on expeditions in search of lost wonders from bygone eras.
At the heart of the Sea of Fog lies Dunstberg, the largest settlement situated on a floating island. There are three primary means of traversing the sea. The first involves using one of the numerous boats that glide atop the fog’s surface. They utilise the flakebloom bark for flotation. The second method involves the aqueduct, serving as tracks for hovercarts, which levitate above the mist. Hovertrains can transport substantial weights thanks to the ancient enchantments on the aqueduct that strongly repels the lovitarite rock. While the original function was to protect the structure from bigger floating rocks, currently it is used to generate lift on wheelless wagons. The final option is to follow the ground route along the aqueduct, which is lengthy and perilous, but nonetheless offers passage through the sea. There are some old roads that lead deep to the undeveloped regions, but only few locals use them.
While the sea is mostly devoid of settlements, there are wild tribes that live on the ground and on some of the floating rocks. Additionally, a few mages and artifex are known to reside in the abyss of the Mist.
