Teremond
The city of Teremond serves as a gateway to the Land of Nur, bordered by the vast Orange Desert to the west and the endless Zatara Jungle to the east. Its unique elevated location protects it from frequent fogs, making it a sought-after habitat in that region. Differing from many nearby cities, Teremond proudly showcases numerous temples in the upper, elevated city.
When viewed from a distance, Teremond’s cityscape facing the vast Orange Desert strongly resembles a towering bookshelf protruding from the side of the mountain. This impression is created by the positioning of houses and structures on natural mountain shelves that are packed next to each other. These “shelves” serve as the foundation for the city’s buildings and walkways with numerous cave entrances dotted between them, on the desert side.
On the forest side a cascading hillside is covered with buildings of all kinds, blending with the fields further below. The summit of the mountain cradles the Elevated City, home to all the temples and a major blimp port. In the lower desert region, residences are constructed from rocks and cement, while in higher areas homes are intricately carved into the rock. At the pinnacle of the mountain, a palace complex houses the impressive Temple of Gardemon, where gods once convened to shape the destinies of people. The foundation of the Elevated City is firmly established on broadly flattened rock formations, and wooden planks crisscross through the spaces, offering reinforcement.
Dense forests and fields that stretch on the mountain’s slope provide for the city’s needs. Within the mountain’s core, an expansive network of tunnels and chambers forms an intricate labyrinth, with the grandest area reserved for the City Market. Many years ago before Teremond was made into one city there were two cities called: Tereci and Varamond, but with time and expancion of the mines, cities connected. Miners used to venture there searching for precious ore, mostly gold and diamonds, yet after years of extensive digging, very little remains.Teremond enjoys the benefits of a headwater that abundantly supplies the city with water. Originating from deep beneath the rocks, this water source once powered ancient machines, some of which remain untouched in the city’s caves. Presently, clever devices pump water from beneath the town, and engineers continually expand the pipeline.
Strategically positioned, Teremond holds significant importance for travelers crossing from the great desert to the east. Its location serves as the primary passage through the mountains, and the river source transforms into a substantial stream suitable for transporting folks and goods.
