Paragon
Located in the swamps, this city thrives on inequality. The eastern district, known as “the Factory,” houses the largest vehicle manufacturer on the continent and occupies roughly a fourth of the city’s area. As a result, the wealthy elites who control production amass unimaginable riches, while the common citizens often endure terrible conditions. Social status in this city is constantly shifting, with individuals easily ascending or descending the social ladder. Many of the less fortunate individuals work either in the colossal factory or in the turf mines that power this industrial behemoth. The ceaseless production fills the skies with an impenetrable layer of black clouds visible from afar, keeping the city in perpetual dimness. Streets are covered in black turf, and everything is coated with soot.
The upper class resides in massive homes, often oblivious to the struggles outside, which sometimes leads to them being out of touch with reality to the point where their lifestyle becomes a joke to outside observers. They take pride in wearing white and showcasing their cleanliness. To maintain this image, they frequently change their clothing, employ “carpeters” who roll out walkways to prevent ladies from dirtying their dresses, and even hire mages to keep particles from soiling their attire. It’s crucial to note that hiring illusionists is considered a faux pas, as only true cleanliness is valued.
If someone is not wealthy the are poor, there is no middle class of Paragon. Wages of those working in factories are ludicrous, especially since food and housing is relatively expensive. A day of “honest work” will grant you enough to collapse from exhaustion under a roof with a stomach full of vegetable stew. This stark contrast with the reality faced by common people, who rely on filters to obtain clean drinking water, creates a truly intriguing and horrifying place.
