Swooping squeals (Stridorenebulara vocales)

Originating from the east of Misteria, swooping squeals can be found in most forests east of Verdalia. These carnivorous creatures, resembling larger relatives of forest squirrels, have a unique hunting tactic. Equipped with membranes that enable them to glide through the fog, they select their prey from above. Once a suitable target is located, they descend swiftly and while emitting a frightening noise they tackle their prey. They hold on to their target and bite their victim until it is dead. If the prey manages to escape, these swooping creatures often retreat, preparing for another attempt. Although they are known for attacking targets larger than themselves, their small size poses no threat to most folks. They rarely hunt in groups and even then they are relatively easy to fend off.

Appearance: These creatures, approximately the size of a cat, resemble large squirrels with pointy heads. They possess thick membranes that extend between their limbs, facilitating effective gliding. Interestingly, they are capable of gliding outside of the mist but less effectively. Their limbs are equipped with clawed paws, aiding them in capturing their prey. Head is small but equipped with sharp teeth. Their fur displays a mixture of gray, brown and purple hues, and they have three eyes, with one smaller, located in the center of the face. They have a big fluffy tail that they use to control the flight’s direction.
