Island turtles (Terraturtur arenamagnus) 

Among the creatures inhabiting the Kabala Kingdom, island turtles are unmistakably conspicuous due to their colossal size, often comparable to entire cities. These remarkable creatures undertake a cyclical journey, traversing the landscape during the wet season and entering a dormant state during the dry season.

During the wet season, island turtles are known to station themselves in lakes, where they remain for weeks, primarily to drink water and resupply. However, when the water levels drop to an unsustainable level, they resume their nomadic travels. Interestingly, certain tribes known as “the shell tribes” have built their homes atop these enormous creatures, establishing a unique coexistence. Astonishingly, the Island Turtles appear unperturbed by the presence of these settlements on their backs.

Their migratory patterns involve traversing the entire landmass twice a year, marking them as truly nomadic giants. Within the confines of their shells, there are cave-like spaces that offer access to the interior. Every 40 years, island turtles undergo a natural shedding process, shedding the top layer of their shells. This shed material is often collected and repurposed for various magical and technical reasons.

Appearance: These massive creatures are so colossal that they can only be seen from a distance. Their shell boasts an impressive diameter of 150 feet (46 meters), with the bottom of it hanging 30 feet (9 meters) above the ground. It reaches a substantial thickness of 60 feet (18 meters) at its thickest point and typically features a flat surface on top. Their head is permanently attached to the shell and remains immobile, while their other appendages can retract and seek refuge within the protective shell.
