Crystalis snails (Helixnebular crystallus)

These curious creatures can be found in regions where daily fogs are prevalent, with the largest specimens inhabiting the Sea of Fog and the surrounding forests. They resemble snails with cristaline shells, but have much longer antennae than their regular counterparts. They are surprisingly light, but their strong suction can make them appear heavy and hard to lift from surfaces. They are often observed crawling on the underside of the fog’s surface and have a tendency to attach themselves to ships. These creatures primarily feed on the fog itself and animal remains that float on the fog’s surface. They are known to consume the levitarite layer that allows ships to hover on the fog, and that in turn can make such vessels sink. Their mucus gets stuck to the ships’ hulls, slowing them down. On occasion, they are collected to produce purple dye, but besides this they are generally considered pests.

Appearance: These creatures measure up to 4 feet (1.2 meter) in length, with their shells being only slightly smaller in diameter. Their bodies are predominantly purple, while shells shine with a plethora of colors. Head features long antennae that house cow-like eyes at the ends. The shells are very hard and sharp, adorned with numerous crystallized growths covering their surfaces. When the underside of the foot is visible on the surface of the Sea of Fog, they resemble a small, white carpet. Many thin, soft tubes protrude from it, which the snail uses to cling onto the fog’s surface. Mucus gland that is located at the center of the foot produces a sticky substance in abundance, that floats on themist.
