– The Bestiary –

There are many creatures living around Misteria, most of which can pose a danger to those who live here and travel across the land. In this section one can find many of those creatures. We have distinguished a couple of subcategories of creatures, such as Dragons, Mistborn, Hollow, Animals and Unclassified. Do keep in mind that this work is of a general nature and in no way encompasses all flora and fauna that exist in the world of Haze. Your encounter might vary, as no two creatures are the same.

Animals (Animalium

Creatures of all sizes, large and small but not born of the mist. There are birds, mammals, insects and, really anything that romes the world of haze.

Mistborn (Nabularis)

Creatures that are categorized as Mistborn are, as the name suggests, born in the mist. They almost exclusively feed on magic, ranging from glimmer through the crystals to the energy of other beings. Because of that, most are considered predators, as few of them wouldn’t attack other creatures on sight. Interestingly, outside of the magical fog, most flying Mistborns go into a kind of sleeping state where they wait for another mist to come. In those few places where the mist doesn’t go away, those creatures seem to sleep less than 3 hours daily. They are ever-present and cause a lot of damage to society, but mists usually dont come by bigger habitats. In those rare cases where some real danger occurs, like a group of festuses or an elasmosus, folk have to wait patiently for the mist to go away, and if damage is done, it will be rebuilt. There is little science and magic can do in the mist, as most of their efforts are either fruitless or more dangerous than the creatures themselves.

Hollow (Inanimachinae)

The enigmatic creations known as the Hollow represent a distinct kind of Artifex, bearing a semblance of intelligence but aligning more closely with animals than sentient beings. These machines exhibit a wide array of forms, ranging from humanoid to animalistic, and most of them were initially crafted for purposes that have been long forgotten.

Among the diverse forms of Hollows, humanoid automatons wander aimlessly in Morozia and the neighborowing regions. Their movements are often sluggish, yet they can pose a potential threat to unsuspecting individuals. The so-called “hounds” stand out as a particularly troublesome variety. Most wandering Hollows are known to leave folk in peace but when disturbed they can cause a lot of harm. If encountered in their own habitat, they are extremely dangerous.

Within the spectrum of Hollow, various distinct classifications exist, each with its unique characteristics and abilities. Besides Morozia they can be encountered in larger numbers in Waternia, Votny forest and throughout the Hollow Steps. Outside of those places hollows are an extreme rarity and are often mistaken for Artifex.

Dragons (Draconis)

These enigmatic creatures steeped in myth and legend, are said to inhabit the remote mountainous regions, far removed from the gaze of civilization. Resembling colossal, flying lizards with the ability to breathe fire and other dangerous substances, they remain elusive, their exact habitats shrouded in mystery. Reports of dragons abruptly vanishing from seemingly inescapable predicaments only add to their enigmatic nature. Witnesses have recounted instances of dragons soaring into caves, only to inexplicably disappear moments later.

Considered formidable and dangerous, these majestic beings occasionally fly over cities in proximity to the mountains in search of sustenance. Historically, the skies teemed with dragons, but following the fall of Eldoria in 1625, such sightings have dwindled significantly. Presently, it is estimated that there exist approximately 1,000 dragons, belonging to around eight distinct species. Among these, the most prevalent are the crystallized dragons, longtailed dragons, and Astorian dragons.

Unclassified

Many creatures can be categorized and cataloged, but from time to time, reports emerge that defy established classifications. Currently, I cannot assert with absolute certainty that these creatures originate from the continent of Misteria. They may be invasive species that happen to exist locally or native anomalies, hinting at more complex origins. Regardless of what the case is, the creatures listed below are indeed real and have been witnessed by many. They either eluded capture or, when killed, yielded no information helpful to their categorization.
