Mastofants (Elephantis sanctulonginus)

Mastofants are colossal creatures reminiscent of elephants that dominate the landscape with their towering presence. Their distinctive vertical shape and the remarkable stillness they exhibit when sleeping often make them appear as living statues. These gentle herbivores roam in substantial herds, traversing vast terrains in search of water and vegetation to sustain their massive appetites.

Mastofants are known for their docile nature and their ability to form bonds with sentient creatures. There are tribes that not only coexist with these gentle giants but also worship them. In such symbiotic relationships, the tribes and mastofants collaborate in tasks that are challenging for one another, forming a remarkable partnership that benefits both parties.

Tragically, Mastofants have fallen victim to poaching activities, driven by the desire for their valuable tusks, bones, hides, and meat. Such activities have posed significant threats to their populations and their harmonious relationships with indigenous tribes.

Appearance: They bear a resemblance to ancient elephants, with a nearly continuous, gently curving silhouette from their back to the tip of their trunk. These majestic creatures reach an impressive height of 10 feet (3 meters) and span 15 feet (4.5 meters) in length, with an additional 3 feet (0.9 meters) in their tusks. Their heads jut forward, causing their formidable fangs to point upward. Short hair the color of sand covers their entire body, though they boast longer strands along their front and back. Supported by four sturdy, stubby legs, they maintain a resilient stance even on challenging terrains, rendering them nearly impossible to flip over.

Skills: Athletics +4, Perception +2, Pain resistance +5

Abilities:

  • 2A Trample – The creature lifts its front legs up and stamps on its enemies. It rolls for Attack check and those that it hits in its close proximity are trampled. They receive damage equal to 2D10 higher + Body and have to attempt an Athletics check on difficulty 9. If they fail they are knocked to the ground.
  • Slash – The creature swipes at up to three nearby enemies with its tusks. If it successfully hits all targets, it inflicts D10 damage + its Body attribute to all of them. Failing to connect with any target results in no damage from the attack.
  • Capture – The creature lunges at its target, attempting to immobilize it. If it successfully lands the attack, it gains a +5 bonus to its Athletics check against the target. Should the targeted creature fail its Athletics check, it takes D10 damage + Body and becomes pinned to the ground. While holding a target, the capturing creature is considered immobile but can still make regular attacks against other foes. The pinned creature can only try to break free from the capture.
