The region known as the Wild Lands is a peninsula located to the west of Verdalia, isolated from the rest of the continent by the Eldor Mountains. This area is characterized by a lush forest filled with deciduous trees and serves as the primary homeland of the Beastly, with approximately half of their population hailing from this region. Many Beastly individuals choose to leave their homeland, either by boat or by traversing the formidable mountains to reach the kingdom of Astoria.

The three most prominent cities in this region are the western port cities of Wildwood, Fernbrook, and Oakshire, with Fernbrook serving as the capital. Deep within the continent, you’ll find the city of Skogbog, nestled amidst the swamps between two expansive forests. The city of Maplewood, named after the nearby forest, and Hickory Glen, situated on the slopes of Monkey Mountain, are two other notable settlements in this region. Hickory Glen stands as the easternmost major Beastly city and is known for its somewhat strained relations with Humans.

The folk of the Wild Lands are renowned for their hardiness and resourcefulness. They have a reputation for getting things done, although aesthetics tend to take a back seat in their priorities. In terms of international relations, they primarily interact with neighboring regions, such as Burgos and Worgos. They avoid traveling northwards to Kambala due to their strong dislike for the Humans from that region, preferring that outsiders come to Fernbrook for trade. Morozia is a favored destination for the Wild Lands’ residents, given the high population of Beastly and the general attitudes of the locals, including Humans.

While they engage in trade and education with Astoria, the relationship is complex. The Wild Lands inhabitants hold mixed feelings about certain Astorian traditions while respecting others. They generally harbor strong negative sentiments toward the Land of Nur and its inhabitants, with reciprocity.

As the name suggests, the Wild Lands are predominantly inhabited by Beastly, with Virdis and Humans in the strong minority. In other regions, if you encounter Beastly individuals who don’t appear to belong to the local ecosystem, you can be sure they didn’t originated from the Wild Lands. This area is a melting pot of various Beastly species, each representing local animals. Among them, the bison-type are particularly esteemed and hold a sacred place in Beastly culture. Albino Beastly are a unique group, and they are typically sent to Hickory Glen for reasons only known to the locals.

Within this diverse community, individuals are often assigned roles based on their physical attributes. Those who are strong and robust, like wolf and bear folk, may find work in protection. Those scarce few with wings might be employed in transport and postal services. However, the specific job a Beastly undertakes depends on their unique attributes, ensuring that everyone can find a suitable occupation. Humans who choose to live in the Wild Lands often seek a fresh start or decide to move here because of love for one of the locals they met while travelling. There are few other reasons for Humans to reside here, as Beastly are generally physically superior to them in most aspects.

Beastly primarily rely on their physical prowess for labour, leaving jobs that require intellectual skills in relatively low demand. An exception can be found in Skogbog, where various races coexist. Virdis residing in the Wild Lands are typically involved in magical practices and related endeavours. In fact, a significant number of them are mages, to the extent that Beastly who have left their homeland are often surprised to learn that not all Virdis possess great magical abilities. Maplewood city hosts a large community of Virdis, particularly within the expansive Enchanted Library. One notable mage in this city is Moserus, who is permitted to enter the aforementioned library and frequently imparts knowledge to other Virdis outside its confines.

Artifex living in the Wild Lands tend to be of the hermit-like variety, preferring solitude for various personal reasons. Many of them utilize their solitary lifestyles to create a multitude of objects. Some craft weapons and machinery, while others focus on breeding animals. In this region, they are known as “metals” or “metal folk” and are highly regarded by the Beastly population for their knowledge and craftsmanship.
